Lettere Castle Guided Tour
At the appointed time, we'll meet at the main entrance of the castle of Lettere to begin a guided tour of this medieval fortress in the Campania region.
Before entering the fortress, in front of this bastion we'll see the remains of the hermitage of Our Lady of Succour. Its ancient bell tower, decorated with grey tuff and yellow sandstone, contrasts with the Lattari Mountains that can be seen in the distance. It's also a strategic point overlooking the Gulf of Naples, with Mount Vesuvius in the background.
After visiting the chapel, we'll go to the castle of Lettere, built in the 10th century under the Duchy of Amalfi. We'll begin our tour of the fortress by visiting the Courtyard of Weapons and the Keep. Inside this watchtower, there is a museum where we'll learn about the history of the families who resided in the bastion.
We'll continue our guided tour of Lettere Castle at the Torre del Trigo (Wheat Tower). Its interior houses another museum where we'll see bronze and ceramic objects found in the archaeological excavations around the fortress.
Finally, after an hour and a half's walk, we'll conclude our tour at the meeting point.
