Get ready for an extraordinary private trekking adventure at the Poruña Volcano, a mesmerizing crater nestled in the Chilean Andes, the smallest in South America.
Tour Highlights
We'll kick off the adventure by picking you up at 8:30 am from your hotel in Calama, setting the stage for an exciting day of exploration.
A scenic drive of approximately an hour and a quarter will take us to the starting point of our hike at the Poruña Volcano. Let the journey commence!
Upon reaching the proximity of the volcano, we'll embark on a captivating ascent to its summit. After an hour's trek, we'll conquer the peak at an elevation of 3,625 meters (8,610 feet) above sea level, marking the Poruña as the smallest volcano in South America and even in the world! Standing at merely about 150 meters (500 feet), equivalent to a 60-story building, it offers a unique perspective.
At the summit, bask in the breathtaking panoramic views. Behold the majestic San Pedro and San Pablo volcanoes and an approximately 8-kilometer (5-mile) stretch of solidified lava. Fun fact: Poruña is believed to be a side crater of the San Pedro volcano!
Following this invigorating trek, we'll begin the descent, taking around one hour. Once back at the base, we'll hop into the vehicle and transport you back to Calama, concluding the adventure by 4 pm.
